Star Wars 7 coming out in 2015

Walt Disney Co agreed to buy filmmaker George Lucas’s Lucasfilm Ltd and its “Star Wars” franchise for $4.05 billion in cash and stock, a blockbuster deal that will lead to a new film in the series in 2015. Disney plans to release at least three more films in the Star Wars saga that ranks among the biggest movie franchises of all time. The last “Star Wars” film was “Revenge of the Sith”, released in 2005.

Although Lucas has in the past denied plans for any new “Star Wars” films, the legendary filmmaker admitted to that he had story treatments outlining three more films, along with many other story lines. Lucas, known for his strict attention to detail of the fictional universe he’s created, will remain a creative consultant for the three films Disney plans to release. He will also become the second largest holder in Disney shares, with a 2.2 percent stake.

The agreement marks the third time in less than seven years that Disney has signed a massive deal to take over a studio or character portfolio, part of its strategy to acquire brands that can be stretched across TV, movies, theme parks and the Internet.
