The Boat Shoe

If you haven’t already, it’s time for you to introduce yourself to the boat shoe. Boat shoes are extremely versatile. You can wear them with virtually any combination of clothing. If you’re looking for a more sophisticated look then the boat shoe style could help you pull it off. Boat shoes provide a casual look yet more formal than loafers. The bottoms are rugged as well, which provides good traction on a variety of different ground surfaces.

The Story:

One day in 1935, Paul Sperry went for a walk with his dog, Prince. While walking his dog, he noticed that Prince was able to run across ice with ease and he wondered how this was possible. Sperry decided to analyze Prince’s paw, and he came to find countless grooves and lines on the bottom of it. Sperry, a rapacious sailor, had problems keeping his balance on his boat’s deck. He decided that if the grooves and lines of Prince’s paw worked so well on ice then they should be able to work on the deck of his boat also. Sperry took a pair of his shoes and carved out some notches in them just like the ones Prince had on the bottom of his paws. The idea worked and Sperry got down to perfecting to his design. Within that year Sperry debuted his Top-Sider (the boat shoe), selling them for only $4.50 a pair.
Conclusion:

Boat shoes are an excellent and affordable choice of shoe for the aspiring sartorialist. These shoes can be used in all of the seasons except Winter due to their availability in a wide variety of colors. Color-blocking refers to putting together two or more solid colors beside one another within one fashion piece and boat shoes have mastered the art. If you’re looking to make a statement and upgrade what’s on your feet I suggest you invest in a pair or two. You can find a fashionable pair for anywhere between $50-$150.
